The State of Leonida

GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, a version of Florida. Vice City is its largest city, but the state is the actual subject, six confirmed regions, each with its own architecture, population and atmosphere.

How big is it, really

Rockstar has described the map as 'very big' without giving exact measurements, and has not released a complete in-game map. What we have are figures from hands-on previews: roughly three times larger than Red Dead Redemption 2's world, roughly twice the size of GTA 5's, with Vice City alone about twice the size of Los Santos.

The more useful number is the one about density. GTA 6 reportedly has nearly eleven times more populated space than GTA 5, meaning the increase is not empty countryside. It is places with people in them.

The six confirmed regions

• Vice City: the modern Miami analogue. Beaches, nightlife, luxury districts, ports, a dense skyline, and the tight streets that make high wanted levels genuinely dangerous.
• Leonida Keys: a tropical archipelago linked by bridges and coastal highway. Jason's home turf and the state's smuggling artery.
• Grassrivers: the Everglades, swamp, cypress forest, mangroves and slow rivers. Confirmed home of hunting and wildlife.
• Port Gellhorn: a run-down west-coast shipping city of cheap motels, faded attractions, truck stops and warehouses.
• Ambrosia: an industrial town on Lake Leonida built around the Allied Crystal sugar refinery, surrounded by farmland and railroads.
• Mount Kalaga National Park: northern wilderness. Forest, high ground, rivers, hiking trails and off-road routes.

Counties and landmarks

Three counties are confirmed to exist within Leonida: Kelly County, Leonard County and Vice-Dale County. Confirmed landmark names include the Malibu Club and Vercetti Estate in Vice City, both direct callbacks to the 2002 game, plus Paradise Garage and Watson Bay in Grassrivers, and Stock 305, Electric Fang Tattoo and The Rusty Anchor in the Keys.

Getting around

A rideshare app called Ryde Me handles fast travel from the in-game phone. Beyond driving, confirmed traversal and activity options across the state include kayaking, scuba diving, parasailing, parachuting, dirt bike racing and street racing at both day and night.
