    Rockstar confirms the next Grand Theft Auto exists

    After nine years of silence following GTA 5, Rockstar publicly acknowledged that active development on the next entry was well underway.

    The leak

    A large volume of in-development footage leaked online, one of the most significant breaches in game industry history. Rockstar confirmed the material was genuine and said it did not expect the incident to affect development.

    Trailer 1

    The first official trailer confirmed Vice City, the state of Leonida, and the two protagonists. It broke YouTube viewing records within 24 hours.

    Delayed to May 2026

    The initial 2025 window was pushed. Rockstar set a new date of May 26, 2026.

    The second trailer gave Jason and Lucia their full names and backstories, showed far more of Leonida, and introduced the supporting cast including Boobie Ike, Dre'Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Cal Hampton and Raul Bautista.

    Delayed again: to November 19, 2026

    Rockstar moved the date a second time, to November 19, 2026, with an unusually direct apology: they said they were very sorry that this was later than expected.

    Pre-orders open

    Standard Edition at $79.99 and Ultimate Edition at $99.99 went live across the Rockstar Store, PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store and major retailers. Both editions share the Vintage Vice City Pack bonus.

  8. Reveal

    GTA 6: An Extended Look

    A 26-minute gameplay presentation captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5 premiered on Netflix at 3pm ET, then on YouTube and Rockstar's site at 9pm ET. It was the first sanctioned look at the game in over a year and confirmed the rebuilt wanted system, the Criminal Profile, the relationship mechanic, the 80-hour story and the map scale.

What the timeline teaches you

GTA 6 has been delayed twice, and both times the new date came directly from Rockstar, not from a leaker, an insider, or a "Rockstar employee" account. Every delay rumour that circulated in between those announcements was wrong. That is the single most useful pattern to remember between now and November.
