GTA 6 on PC: what Take-Two has actually said, and what the history suggests

There is no GTA 6 PC release date and no announced window. Here is every official statement from Rockstar and Take-Two, plus what the GTA 5 and Red Dead 2 timelines imply about when PC players might realistically get it.

Short version: there is no GTA 6 PC release date, no announced window, and no PC pre-orders anywhere. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only.

Anyone quoting you a specific PC date is guessing. But the official statements and the historical pattern are both genuinely informative, so here they are.

What Take-Two has actually said

In May 2026, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick described GTA 6 as a day-one release across exactly two platforms, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with no PC in the initial line-up.

Asked why console comes first, his explanation was that Rockstar is judged, in his phrasing, by serving the core audience. He also acknowledged that PC is not a small market for the company: he estimated it could account for something like 45 to 50% of the sales of a major Take-Two launch.

Read those two statements together and you get the actual situation. PC is not being ignored. It is being sequenced. A company does not describe half its potential sales as an afterthought. It delays them because launching flawlessly on two fixed hardware targets is easier than launching on two fixed targets plus every PC configuration on earth.

What the history suggests

Rockstar has done this twice, and the gap has been shrinking.

GameConsole launchPC launchGap
GTA 5September 2013April 2015~19 months
Red Dead Redemption 2October 2018November 2019~13 months

Apply the GTA 5 gap to a November 2026 console launch and you land around mid-2028. Apply the Red Dead 2 gap and you land closer to late 2027.

That range, somewhere between roughly a year and two years after console, is the honest answer. It is a projection from two data points, not a leak, and we are labelling it as exactly that.

Why the wait tends to be worth it

The one consolation for PC players is that Rockstar’s PC ports have historically not been lazy. The GTA 5 PC release added a substantially higher resolution ceiling, a first-person mode, and the video editor. Red Dead 2 on PC shipped with meaningful graphical upgrades over console.

There is also a specific reason PC might matter more this time. First-person mode reportedly is not in GTA 6 at launch, and the base PS5 version reportedly runs at 30fps, neither officially confirmed by Rockstar. Both are precisely the kind of thing a later PC release has historically addressed.

What would count as real news

We will move this from projection to confirmed when one of these happens:

  • Rockstar announces a PC version or window directly
  • A PC store page appears on Steam, the Epic Games Store or the Rockstar Store
  • Take-Two names PC in an earnings call as a dated release rather than a possibility

Until one of those, treat every “GTA 6 PC date confirmed” headline as what it is. There have already been several, and all of them were wrong.

What about PS4 and Xbox One?

Not happening. GTA 6 is a current-generation release only. There is no last-generation version planned, and given the map size and NPC density Rockstar has described, there is no realistic prospect of one.
